Our founder, Nicola Wood, herself was diagnosed aged 36 with breast cancer and had her treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Newcastle. This treatment process led to Nicola’s own personal hair loss and body image concerns.
Nicola soon found that finding good wigs and a good service was difficult and many of the wig options that were available were outdated and old-fashioned. Nicola wanted to change this by helping people to access good quality wigs and up-to-date hairdressing; combining both skills to create truly bespoke wigs as unique as an individual’s own hair.
This was Nicola’s own journey and led to her founding the Wonderful Wig Company - a dedicated supplier of bespoke wigs to cancer patients and hair loss sufferers. Today, we stock one of the largest ranges of high-quality wigs in the UK, and we’re an NHS-approved supplier too - so you can spend your NHS vouchers with us and find the perfect wig for you.
About Our Custom Wig Service
As a professional stylist who herself went through her battle with cancer and experienced hair loss, our founder Nicola knows all-too-well how frustrating it can be to only find flat, lifeless looking wigs that don’t match the quality and style of real hair.
That’s why we offer a custom wig service for cancer patients and all of our customers. This is available at either of our salons in Sunderland or Newcastle, where you can make an appointment to choose a wig or multiple wigs and have them professionally styled to your specifications. This might mean colouring, layering or styling the wig to suit you. You can also use your NHS wig voucher with this bespoke wig service.
