5 Myths About Wigs

"It'll look obvious."
"I couldn't wear one every day."
"I bet it's uncomfortable or damaging to my natural hair…"
If you’ve ever thought these things about wearing a wig — you’re absolutely not alone.
We speak to women every week who feel nervous, unsure, or just don’t know where to start. So today, we wanted to gently set the record straight on some of the biggest myths about wearing new hair.
Myth 1: “It’ll look fake”
Not anymore. Wigs have come so far — from natural-looking lace fronts and hand-tied caps, to perfect colour-matching and pieces that move just like real hair. Most people won’t even realise you’re wearing one (unless you tell them).
Myth 2: “They’re uncomfortable”
Only if the fit’s wrong. When your wig has been properly measured and chosen with care, it should feel soft, breathable, and secure — even if your scalp is feeling a little sensitive.
The right piece feels like a part of you, not something you want to take off the moment you get home.
Myth 3: “It’ll damage my natural hair”
Actually, it can do the opposite. With the right advice and fitting, a wig can give your scalp a break — protecting fragile hair and helping it recover from styling or medical treatment.
We also work closely with trichologists to make sure everything we do is gentle, supportive, and safe.
Myth 4: “Synthetic means poor quality”
Modern synthetic hair is beautifully made, incredibly realistic, and holds its shape — which means less styling, less stress, and more time to just get on with your day.
Some of our clients prefer it over human hair!
Myth 5: “You have to spend a fortune”
Absolutely not. Whether you’re going through the NHS or buying privately, we’ll help you find a solution that works for you. It’s never about how much you spend — it’s about feeling like yourself again.
